About the SIFCUL Inaugural Forum

Convened in the most pleasant season of Shenzhen, the SIFCUL Inaugural Forum intends to provide a high-level platform for the SIFCUL members gathered from all over the world to discuss issues of common concern, share experiences and knowledge, and explore opportunities for future exchanges and collaborations in education, research and cultural development. The Forum will be an integrated part of the China International Hi-Tech Fair, which has the reputation of being the “No.1 exhibition of China’s technology development” and a feast for domestic and international talents in education, science, technology and cultural industries to gather.

Under the theme of Innovation and Transformation—The Future of Higher Education in the Network Society, the Inaugural Forum invites all SIFCUL members to engage in thought provoking discussions on the dynamic relationship between higher education and the society which have been both transformed by the microelectronic-based networking technologies in the past three decades. While higher education serves as the engine of knowledge society or information society and undoubtedly contributes to the emergence of a network society, it is now faced with different demands laid by this network society for leader development, labor force training, scientific and technology solutions to a whole range of different social, economical, and environmental challenges. Meanwhile, higher education itself has been reshaped by the digital network technology in aspects of campus infrastructure, organizational operation, methods of instruction and even modes of knowledge production.

Like never before, the network society is a global society. The Inaugural Forum hopes to form a most proper platform for the SIFCUL members to assess the mutual influence between higher education and the network society, envision desired directions to pursue through innovative collaborations, and prepare the higher education to continuously serve the human society better.

In order to bring forth communications with substance, the Forum invites participants to submit papers in advance (paper submission). In addition to keynote speeches, panel presentations and poster exhibitions will be organized based on papers selected from the submissions, and all papers will be compiled in a volume of proceedings to be distributed at the Forum.

We look forward to seeing you at the SIFCUL Inaugural Forum!
